Elks rally for 74-66 win

Pumphrey sets single-game free throw records

TOURNEYTOWN.COM

Tylor Allen's 3-pointer with 3:56 to play pushed Lake Quinault ahead to stay, and the Elks went on for a 74-66 consolation victory Thursday in the Class 1B boys state tournament.

Teammate Cameron Pumphrey, who scored a team-high 24 points, made nine free throws and Nathan Cook hit a putback the rest of the way to secure the win for the Elks (16-9).

Lake Quinault trailed by 19, 39-20, late in the first half, mostly thanks to the offensive fireworks of Tulalip Heritage's Shawn Comenote, who scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. Comenote sank all six of his 3-pointers in the first half.

But the Elks slowly crawled back. Pumphrey scored 14 of his points after intermission. He finished the game converting 18 of 24 free-throw attempts, both new tournament single-game records.

Cameron Daniels added 16 points for the Elks. Pumphrey pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.

James Whitebear chipped in 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Hawks (13-12). Comenote also had nine rebounds.
